Attack Preparations, Pt. 4 - _TNY_6965
Back in 2020 we had a wasp nest just outside the front door at home over the summer and there were no issues whatsoever with that - they didn't bother us and we didn't bother them.
One day when I got home I noticed a really large fly below the entrance to the nest and thought that was a bit of a dangerous place to hang around.
It turned out to be this female lesser hornet hoverfly (Volucella inanis), a species which lay their eggs just outside wasp nests and the larvae then sneak into the nest and live there.
This lady was simply waiting for the right time to go on here parasitic bomb run so I managed to get a few shots of here while she was waiting.
