Pest Control - _TNY_2547
I found this solitary wasp stuck inside the windows of the green house which is why there is such a nice reflection of it.
This is some sort of aphid wasp (Pemphredon sp.). They are named so because the female excavates pith from plants to make a nest and then construct individual cells for the eggs. Each cell is stocked with paralyzed aphids, typically about two dozen of them per cell.
The egg hatches in three to five days and the larvae then spend about two weeks eating the aphids before being fully grown.
Depending on when in the season this happens, they either hibernate through winter in this prepupal stage or immediately pupate and emerge about three weeks later as adults.
