Mid-November in Stockholm Sweden is generally cold and generally void of bugs, but I found this crafty lady outside the front door on the early morning of Nov 10th.
She had spun her web right next to the lamp outside the door and was making hay with a surprising amount of insects buzzing around the lamp in the light drizzle.
I believe this is a lesser garden spider (Metellina segmentata) though possibly it's the similar M. mengeii instead. The lunch in question insect is some sort of winter crane fly (Trichoceridae).
In Swedish, these are known as "höstspindel" and in German "Herbstspinne" - both translating into "autumn spider" which seems quite fitting then.
