The Sleeping Cosmopolitan, Pt. 3 - _TNY_9131

The painted lady (Vanessa cardui) is the butterfly in the world with the widest distribution, which might be the reason behind the former North American name for it, the cosmopolitan.

The migrate with the wind and sometimes, like the summer of 2019, this means that an enormous number of them end up here in Sweden. Last year I saw one the entire summer and this year it's the most common butterfly of all.

This particular specimen was sleeping outside a neighbour's window one morning so I managed to get quite close.
