No Fly Zone - _TNY_7523
The green tiger beetle (Cicindela campestris), like all tiger beetles are built for speed. They are exremely fast runners which make them quite difficult to get a good shot of. What makes them even trickier though is that they also fly. You follow them around while they run in bursts and then after a while they just open up the elytra, extend the wings and fly away.
This one however, for some reason didn't want to fly at all. I followed her (I think it's a her) across the rock beach at Havtornsudd Point and up into the forest and at no point did she even attempt to fly.
After a while I tried putting my hand down in front of her and she climbed up into it without hesitation.
Obviously she was still a very capable sprinter, but I at least managed this shot of her in my hand.
