Since this is a female scarlet peacock (Anartia amathea) and not a male, the pattern on the dorsal side is more orange than truly scarlet like it is on the males, but in my opinion, these are just as pretty.
By tropical butterfly standards, it isn't a large species as the wingspan typically is 50-70 mm (2-3").
This particular one was shot at the Haga Ocean butterfly house, but in the wild, the species can be found in the Americas - on both sides of the Andes actually.
