New Shape - TNY_2452

A 2019 shot of a pair of Peleides blue morphos (Morpho peleides) joined together to try and secure the next generation at the Haga Ocean butterfly house.

Morphos have unusually large wings compared to body size compared to most other butterflies so they overlap quite a lot when coupled, creating an unusual shape.

The dorsal side of these are almost completely deep blue (like this: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/26963220947/), but the ventral side here look quite similar to the Achilles morpho I posed yesterday here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/51985207244/ - the tell is the cream-coloured band at the top of the front wings which is much thinner on the other species.
