The Sand Hunter - _TNY_0754
The Swedish name for this green tiger beetle (Cicindela campestris) I found in the Tyresta National Park just south of Stockholm, Sweden is "grön sandjägare", meaning "green sand hunter.
It's a fitting name as they are fast predators, using their great running speed to hunt down prey which can be just about anything smaller than itself.
The larvae is also a fierce predator, burrowing down into the ground and using their huge jaws in much the same fashon as ant lins do.
I've never come across a larvae myself, but maybe this season, the national park will offer up one to me.
I have collected all my shots of this species in an album here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/albums/72157719182564816
