End of Life, Pt. 2 - _TNY_6139

Here's a male giant charaxes (Charaxes castor), sometimes known as the giant emperor, which wasn't doing very well when I found him on the floor at the Haga Ocean butterfly house.

This guy was reaching end-of-life and was just sitting there, and just topping over a short while later.

This isn't as sad as you would think - the average adult lifespan of this species is around eight days(!) and the entire life cycle from egg to adult is around seven weeks.

I don't consider this photo successful with the lack of focus and all, but I figured it would be good to have a shot showing the dorsal side - as it is so different compared to the ventral.

Paert 1 shows that ventral side here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/51956730048/
