This is a male orange-spotted drone fly (Eristalis anthophorina) found by the waterline at the Drevviken nature reserve in southeastern Stockholm in late May.
He was watching while several females were depositing their eggs in the debris by the water's edge.
The Swedish vernacular name for this is "strandslamfluga" where "strand" means beach so it really was right at home there.
