Peekaboo! - _TNY_4211
Here is a cute little common winter damsel (Sympecma fusca) trying to hide from my iquisitive camera behind a branch.
This species (along with a close realtive which is much rarer in Sweden) are unique in that they hibernate through the winter months as adults.
This gives them the edge on the other species which are still in their larval stage underwater so they can get going earlier.
I have seen absolutely amazing shots of these guys covered in ice crystals as they hibernate simply hangning from a twig.
I was on the lookout for them this winter, but couldn't spot any. Their grey and brown colours work really well as a camouflage, I'll give them that.
