Kiwi Bio Agent - _TNY_0802

Early in the 2021 season, well, at least early for up here in cold Sweden, I took my new camera to the Paradiset nature reserve in search of something to shoot with the new camera I bought during the winter of 2020.

Pickings weren't exactly fantastic, but I found some nice bugs, like this heather beetle (Lochmaea suturalis). For this angle, it stayed still long enough for me to snap several shots so this is three exposures focus sracked into a single image.

There is a similar species, but L. suturalis supposedly has a shinier pronotum which points to this one being that.

Since the larvae eat heather, this species has actually been introduced in New Zealand as a biological agent to combat heather which is an invasive species down there.
