The 14-spotted ladybird (Propylea quatuordecimpunctata) is known in Swedish and German as the equivalent of "chessboard ladybird" - which is pretty self-explanatory when you see it.
These two are however clearly more interested in a different kind of playing - but were still enough for me to snap two shots and focus stack them.
This is a species with a quite variable appearance and another cool thing is that while the adult beetles are somewhere between 3.5 and 4.5 mm in length, the larvae can reach a size of as much as 7 mm - twice the size of the adult!
