Worn Wings - _TNY_4396
A European peacock (Aglais io) soaking up some of the first warm rays of sunshine on the gravel road at my favourite spot at Åva-Stensjödal in Tyresta National Park in April.
This species hibernates as adults which explains the brown underside when the top side has such bright colours. When hibernating, they close up the wings together and can be really difficult to discover against brown mark or similar.
The wings look quite worn, but this isn't necessarily a big issue for it as butterfly wings have surprisingly much overhead on flight capacity and can often fly with alrge parts missing.
