The Waiting Wolf, Pt. 2 - _TNY_2393
This gasteruptid wasp (Gasteruption boreale) and a couple of its brethren were waiting just above where a yellow-faced bee (Hylaeus sp.) was preparing its egg chamber.
No doubt the plan was to raid the nest and lay their own egg in or on top of the bee's and I felt bad for it being unable to do anything but continue to set the table for the wasps.
This is one of the species with a shorter ovipositor, but some species have one longer than the rest of the wasp.
If you look closely, you'll notice jagged lines all over the thorax which makes me think of Frankenstein's monster. You know, how the doctor had sewn together various parts. No idea what the lines are on this one though.
