Dirty Pictures - _TNY_0713

The male green tiger beetle (Cicindela campestris) has distinctly larger jaws than the females.

 

From what I've seen, these are used to grab around the female's body and hold her when mating.

 

These two are doing just that and were all over the place and not very helpful when I tried to take my candid shots of their lovemaking.

 

This shot is also a good example of the variation in colour of this species as the female is much more golden in colour than the male.
