Why Isn't This One Called the Kiwi Beetle? - _TNY_0726

The woolly darkling beetle (Lagria hirta) is a pretty small beetle with black head and abdomen and the brown elytra covered in dense hair. The way the outer segment of the antennae is significantly longer than the rest of them also tells us this is a male.

To me, it is a great injustice to the world that these guys are called "woolly darkling beetle" when the obvious name should have been "kiwi beetle".
