Sideburn Mite,Pt. 2 - _TNY_2491
So I found this square-headed wasp (Crossocerus sp.) stuck inside the glass of the greenhouse and it was tired enough for me to get to snap a couple of shots with the MP-E65mm set to 2.4:1 magnification. before it flew off.
Upon inspection of the shots I got the pleasant (not for the wasp!) surprise of finding a parasitic mite hanging in the sideburn of the wasp's silver beard! Just goes to show that when you think an insect is small - there is *always* something smaller.
Really pleased with the level of detail on the mite here as well as on part 1 here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/51284782792/ and I think it is well worth a zoom-in.
