German Scorpion - _TNY_7823

Scorpion flies are cool. They of course have no relation to scorpions and have just gotten their name because the males have an enlarged red tail folded up over the abdonmen and it resembles the stinger end of a scorpion's tail.

This one is a female however so the name might appear a bit weird without the backstory.

Typically when I find these its the species common scorpion fly - but this one is different. The distinctly smaller black part at the end of the wings coupled with the two black bands over the wings being broken tells us this in fact is a German scorpion fly (Panorpa germanica).
