Two of This or Two of That, Pt. 2 - _TNY_7077

The two most common species of blues where I live (including the Havtornsudd cape on the Gålö peninsula where this is taken) is the silver-studded blue and the northern blue, also known as the idas blue.

The problem with this is that they look so incredibly similar that telling which is which is quite difficult. Both species enjoy heather alot and basically the same habitat so that is no help either.

A knowledgable aquaintance of mine took a look at the photo and immediately deducted it was a pair of silver-studded blues (Plebejus argus) due to the concentration of blue near the base of the wings on the male.

These two made a couple of half-hearted efforts to fly away from me while coupled, but soon gave up and conentrated on their business while I took a couple of shots.
