Let Me Out! - _TNY_6845

The genus Tabanus include some truly huge species of horsefly, including the heaviest fly in Europe.

This one is a band-eyed brown horsefly (Tabanus bromius) which is one of the smallest Tabanus species at just 13-15 mm in length. The eyes look just as magnificient as on the larger relatives though.

This particular one was stuck inside the glass of our patio, and just like other horesflies and unlike mosquitoes, while indoors, they lose their drive to find someone to bite and just want to get out again.
