After finishing our dinner on the patio, I noticed several darters landing near us and happily whipped out my camera and got down on my stomach and inched closer.
First to land was a male vagrant darter (Sympetrum vulgatum), also known as the moustached darter. Resulting shot here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/50225370658/

Next it was the girls' turn and this female landed, looking just as glad as the male.
That mouth looks friendly and smiling, but if you have witnessed a dragonfly eating you know that it is quite a grisly sight when they open their face up and devour the poor unfortunate victim.
