Pretty Mutant, Pt. 2 - _TNY_7167

Some grasshoppers, like this meadow grasshopper (Chorthippus parallelus) suffer from a thing called erythrism. It's a fairly rare genetic mutation, not unlike albinism, which causes parts of, or the whole animal, to become pink.

 

I say suffer, but it's not painful or anything like that, but it's safe to say that it messes up the hiding potential quite a lot which makes this even rarer as they are less likely to avoid detection than kin with the regular colour scheme.
