Blue Team Meeting - _TNY_3477

I was walking around in the water trying to get a shot or two of the numerous male black-tailed skimmers (Orthetrum cancellatum which were buzzing around male over the water while we were swimming. This one decided to land right next to a male common blue damselfly (Enallagma cyathigerum).

This made for a good shot to explain the differences in appearance between dragonflies and damselflies. All dragonflies hold their wings out to the side when not flying while damsels (with a few exceptions) hold them straight back over their abdomen. Also, the damsels' heads are wider - giving them a bit of a hammerhead look.
