The Intended Subject - _TNY_0756

From what I gather, some macro photographers go out and actively search for a particular species to shoot and I have never understood this. When I go out, a not insignificant part of the fun is seeing what I am going to find and then be able to capture it in the camera.

Green tiger beetles (Cicindela campestris) like this however, was actually exactly what I was looking for when going to Åva-Stensjödal in Tyresta National Park just south of Stockholm, Sweden in early May.

I of course ended up with a bunch of other cool inverts as well, but a portrait like this showing those huge mandibles as well as the awsome metallic green colour - look at the part between the eyes! - was what I was hoping for.
