Can't Eat - _TNY_9094

Adult mayflies, like this Ephemera vulgata don't eat. They only live for a short period of time and do nothing but try to reproduce.

Before this they typically spend two years as larvae underwater. Mayflies are some of the oldest known insects and a unique tait is that they are the only insects who hav a subadult stage with wings before moulting a final time into the adult form.

This particular specimen was found by the Rudan lake in Handen just south of Stockholm.
