Better Than Long Walks - _TNY_5210

Being a bug photographer means you're not very company when someone wants to go for a walk. You both want to walk real slow so you can spot stuff - and when you do they have to stand still and wait for the shots that have to be captured.

Occasionally my family aren't having that and just keep walking when I stop. That was the case here when I spotted a nice female small white (Pieris rapae), known as the cabbage white or cabbage butterfly in North America.

I stepped down into the ditch and began sneaking up on the buttefly sitting on some nice white flowers growning at the edge of someone's garden. As you can see, I got the shot, but when I looked up, the rest of the family had kept walking, resulting in me having to run (fullformat camera with flash and diffuser really aren't ideal for running) until I caught up with them.

At least the butterfly came out good.
