The Red Knight - _TNY_0161S2
The black-and-red-bug (Lygaeus equestris) has a black cross on it's back which resembles an iron cross/Malteser cross/Ritterkreutz. This is the reason for the species being named "equestris" which is Latin for mounted [on a horse] - like knights were.
This particular specimen braced the cold temperatures of late March in Stockholm Sweden and became one of the first bugs I managed to capture with the new camera (Canon 5Ds). So far, the 50.6 megapixel really offers a lot of extra wiggle room for cropping compared to the 22.3MP of the 5D mk3.
