Confusing Names, Pt. 3 - _TNY_4267
In the Swedish language, flower is called "blomma". An older, but still frequently used synonym is "blomster" which messes things up a bit. You see, hoverflies, the family Syrphidae, are known as "blomflugor" - flower flies, but then there is another family, Anthomyiidae, which are called "blomsterflugor" - also flower flies. This one belongs to the latter. No idea what the thought behind giving two families such similar names, but then again, they sound prettier than the English vernacular name for Anthomyiidae, "root-maggot flies"
The "fabric" this one is sitting (standing?) on is actually some sort of white fungus growing on a fallen tree.
