In the Yellow Explosion - _TNY_9639

The large hoverfly here is a female pellucid fly (Volucella pellucens), but the flower it is sitting on is actually more interesting.

 

My mother-in-law (Hi Lena!) has planted two species of rue in here garden. Chinese meadow-rue and one other species - and in between them they have spontaneoulsy created a hybrid which has borrowed parts of both in appearance.
