Junior Eye Stripe - _TNY_8701
Coming into fall, the bug life dies down significantly up here. Recently I've discovered the joy of leafhoppers though. You have to get in real close to see them, but they make for very nice subjects and there is great variation in how they look.
This species is a somewhat recent immigrant to Sweden, a Fieberiella septentrionalis on the window sill outside my neighbour's house. Notice that this one hasn't got any wings. That is because it is just a nymph and won't get wings until it has changed into the adult form.
When taking this (and shots of the adults: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/50516850883/) I was in the process of trying out the latest version of my diffuser.
One of the main issues I was trying to adress with the previous versions was that when using the Canon MP-E65mm at higher magnifications (this is at 3.9:1) the lens extends so far forward that it blocks the light from the flash. Judging by the results here, I think we can say that it provides better light (and very little in the form of hotspots) which pleases me a lot.
