Attack Preparations - _TNY_6966

We've had a wasp nest just outside the front door at home and there has been no issues with that. They don't bother us and we don't bother them.

One day when I got home I noticed a really large fly below the entrance to the nest and thought that was a bit of a dangerous place to hang around.

It turned out to be this female lesser hornet hoverfly (Volucella inanis), a species which lay their eggs just outside wasp nests and the larvae then sneak into the nest and live there.

This lady was simply waiting for the right time to go on here parasitic bomb run so I managed to get a few shots of here while she was waiting.
