Going for a Snack on the Lily Pad - _TNY_5869
2020 was a special year for many things, one of them being the avoiding of large gatherings of people. This meant that the typical Swedish way of celebrating Midsummer was ot the window so me and the family ended up in a lovely little part of lake Långsjön in the Paradiset nature reserve on Midsummer's Day.
While there we went for a swim and when we got back my wife asked if I could get a close shot of one of the water lilies growing there in the water a meter or two from land. This had me out with the macro rig and swimming trunks trying to capture the shot for her - but when I got close I noticed this pirate wolf spider (Pirata piraticus) on a liliy pad on its way to eat another small spider and shifted focus to that one.
She got her water liliy shot, but these turned out much better. Isn't that pattern on the thorax just amazing?
