This hoverfly looking into the camera like a good model is one of the Eristalis species, knows as droneflies. The pretty white flowers are false spiraea (Sorbaria sorbifolia) a species which is popular in gardens, but can become dfficult to get rid of if you like to get rid of it while it liked the place it was growing in.
