Death in the Dead Flower, Pt. 2 - _TNY_2543

An autumn shot of one of the two great masterworts (Astrantia major) which were significantly taller than the rest.

In this one, a large female European garden spider (Araneus diadematus) had made her nest in the withered flower and in the other (maybe 40-50 cm away) there were loads of black ants.

Somehow she had managed to connect the two flowers with threads of here silk so I suspect she was hoping to catch an ant or two this way.
