Black Edition - _TNY_4930

Sweden isn't the place to be if you want to find lots of different snakes. We only have three species and of those - only one is venomous.

 

This is the common European adder (Vipera berus) and it's venom is seldom fatal - only about one person is killed per ten years here.

 

This one was chilling next to the path I was walking on in Tyresta National Park and wasn't particularily keen on me shoving a macro lens up its nose and decided to slither away instead.

 

Typically, these guys are grey with a black jagged strip on the back, but all black or near-black ones like this aren't too uncommon.
