Elusive Blondie - _TNY_7192
There are three robberflies in the Laphria genus in Sweden: L. flava, L. ephippium and this one, Laphria gibbosa. They are clearly the largest species, reaching about 30 mm in body length and distinctly furry. Before this I had only seen L. flava a couple of times, but out orienteering in the forests near our house with my son and wife I suddenly saw one landing just a couple of meters away!
All I could manage was a shot from a meter and a half away, but hey - at least I finanlly got one, right?
We moved on and found the next marker, but after that we had to double back a little while and when we got to the little ridge where I saw it - it was there again!
This time I got significantly closer before getting a shot and this is the result of that.
L. gibbosa is significantly scarcer than L. flava so I am very have to have found one - twice.
