The celebration of midsummer is more serious in Sweden than in many other countries and I figured I should post something fitting today, on Midsummer's Eve.
This little guy (it's just ~3mm and shot using the MP-E65mm at 3.9:1 magnification) is a meadow cranesbill weevil (Zacladus geranii) and in a majority of the shots you see of it, the background is purple/magenta. This is because the host plant is the wood cranesbill (Geranium sylvaticum) which has flowers in this lovely colour.
They tend to blossom right about around midsummer which is part of the explanation for the Swedish name "midsommarblomster" - quite literally "midsummer flower".
I found this one and several more in the Paradiset Nature Reserve where I spent the day with my wife and son (Traditional Swedish Midsummer celebrations are not really an option with the pandemic and all).
