Stinger - _TNY_2969

I believe that this very small (~4-4.5 mm / .16") ant is an European fire ant (Myrmica rubra), but there are a couple of other species which could fit the same description.

 

This is a rather aggressive species with a noticeable sting.

 

The MP-E65 lens captured the ribbed texture on the head rather nicely, wouldn't you say?
