In the Swedish language, flower is called "blomma". An older, but still frequently used synonym is "blomster" which messes things up a bit. You see, hoverflies, the family Syrphidae, are known as "blomflugor" - flowr flies, but then there is another family, Anthomyiidae, which are called "blomsterflugor" - also flower flies. No idea what the thought behind giving two families susch similar names, but then again, they sound prettier than the English vernacular name, "root-maggot flies"
