Ready to Pounce - _TNY_0027
Now, I know naming species is difficult, but sometimes it becomes decidedly less good than it could’ve been. This is a beautiful demoiselle (Calopteryx virgo). The problem with using ”beautiful” as a marker to identify a species though is that it can just as easily just be an adjective describing the specimen. I mean, writing ”this is a beautiful beautiful demoiselle” looks a bit stupid, doesn’t it?
Anyways, the gold/bronze colour on this beautiful demoiselle (Calopteryx virgo) tells us it is a female and in this pose she reminds me of a cat, ready to pounce. I feel quite fortunate to be able to get all the way in to 1:1 magnification like this.
