Fovea - _TNY_1246

Yet another shot of an insect on top of a great masterwort (Astrantia major). This time it is a female of one of the mining bees (Andrena sp.). Most likely this is a painted mining bee (Andrena fucata), but it might be an A. intermedia instead.

 

This shot somewhat unusually well shows the fovea, the depression on the inside of the eyes which is covered with minute hairs.
