Orange on Purple - _TNY_1734

Bug photographers typically love thistles. Eventhough the leaves can be a bit prickly to the touch, the flowers are not only beautiful, but also attract *loads* of insects who quickly busy themselves with eating and let you get close. The intense magenta-purple colour ain't all bad either.

This shot from next to lake Rudan in Handen, Sweden is of a common carder bee (Bombus pascuorum), sometimes known as the brown-banded carder bee.
