Favourite Critter - _TNY_1292
Celebrating my birthday today by uploading one of my favourite shots from the summer of 2019.
This is a female European wool carder bee (Anthidium manicatum) which has landed on the log next to the house leeks which she harvests hairs from to line her nest.
The males defend their territory containing suitable plants intensely and it's one of few bee species where the male is larger than the female.
Do check out the "Wool-carder Bees" album this is part of for quite a few shots of these guys (over several years) in the very same spot - but mostly on the beautifully pink house-leeks.
