An Odd Cross - _TNY_8365

The European garden spider (Araneus diadematus), also known as the cross orb-weaver and diadem spider, is quite variable in colour, ranging from orange all the way to very dark brown - almost black.

 

This young specimen displays a quite unusual coloration though with black, red and yellow.
