Saturated Purple - _TNY_9711
The bee beetle (Trichius fasciatus) is quite closely related to the chafers, you know those large metallic green beetles, and just like those it has a special party trick where it has slits in the sides of the elytra so that they can open their flight wings and fly without having to first open up the elytra like other beetles.
This one was munching away at the top of an intensly deep purple thistle near Stensjödal in the Tyresta National Park just to the south of Stockholm, Sweden.
