Knitted Mittens - _TNY_6303
Male spiders use their pedipalps, the two small "arms", to transfer the sperm to the female during mating. This means that the pedipalps are a good way to sex an adult spider.
This means we can easily tell because of the knitted mittens this extra cute little guy is sporting that it really is a guy and not a girl.
Different spider families have the eight (or occasionally six) eyes arranged so you can look at a spider portrait and use a chart to figure out which family it belongs to. With two extra large eyes up front like this it is easy to tell it is a member of Salticidae, the jumping spiders.
The colouration then tells us it is an Evarcha falcata, a species without a venacular English name, but in Swedish it is called "brokhoppspindel" - "mottled jumping spider".
