Gold Shirt - _TNY_1334
This guy with a pretty handsome gold slipover is a cluster fly (Pollenia sp.), also known as an attic fly. Unlike other Calliphoridae blowflies, these guys are strictly parasitic on earthworms and don't mess with human food.
So why "attic flies"? Well, they enter houses to hibernate during the winter and prefer less accessible places and tend to gather in rather large numbers in little-used windows, typically in attics.
No idea on the benefit of the gold (or maybe brass?) shirt though.
