Summer Classic - _TNY_1245

This is a variant of a classic summer motive for me.

A pellucid fly (Volucella pellucens) on a great masterwort (Astrantia major), the darker variety, a surefire flower to find pollinating insects on in my mother-in-law's giant garden where I spend time every summer.

Looking at this hoverfly we can easily tell it is a male because of the way the eyes are touching each other. The females have them separated instead.
