Pretty Landing Pad - _TNY_9183
The male of the European wool carder bee (Anthidium manicatum) is quite territorial and vigorously chases away and sometimes even kills intruders in his territory.
The females of this species line their nests with the hairs from flowers like this house leek (Sempervivum tectorum) so he knows they will come to his domain and thus he will get to mate with them.
From a photographer's standpoint, this is also pretty neat as you can set up next to them and with a little luck you'll get a shot of those fantastic eyes!
